PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform routine semi-skilled/manual work functions associated with installation, construction, repair and maintenance of water utility lines and related systems/equipment.
Completion of tenth grade level education required; six months of experience in construction/maintenance work involving plumbing, water distribution or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License. May be required to possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License Class A.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties many be required and assigned.
Assists in installing and repairing water mains, water service connections, hydrants and backflow devices.
Performs manual work functions associated with construction, maintenance and repair of water utility systems (e.g., digging holes or trenches; installing pipe; repairing leaks; hauling materials; loading and unloading trucks; etc.).
Check supply of equipment, tools and supplies for use at work sites.
Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects.
Operates a variety of equipment machinery and tools used in constructions, maintenance and repair of water utility systems (which may include a service truck, dump truck, tractor, front-end loading truck, electronic locator, metal probe, post hole digger, mechanic tools. etc.).
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment/machinery in good working condition (e.g. inspecting equipment, checking condition of tires, checking/replacing fluids levels, greasing equipment, and washing/cleaning equipment).
Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports, work orders, or other documentation; completes, process, and/or forwards as appropriate; maintain records.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service.
Responds to routine requests for information from employees, officials, the public or other individuals.
Conducts various errands as assigned (e.g., picks up/delivers supplies and materials).
Performs general cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining shop and grounds areas.
Assists other positions and other departments as needed
Performs other related duties as required.
